Julie Small On May 5, 2011 Robert handed the Canadian Society of Animal Science President's gavel to me. Thank-you, it is an honour! Today, in our business, it is easy for one to feel chased by the people you serve, but a good chase provokes action and it is an exciting time to be a member of our society! Our annual meeting in Halifax NS was a success: the number of attendees was over 1/3rd of the number of members, 52% of attendees were students and post-docs, the finances in the black.

At the awards banquet the 2011-2012 executive members were introduced:

  • Robert Berthiaume: Past-President
  • Luigi Faucitano: President-Elect/Conference Coordinator and CJAS Rep
  • John Baah: Vice-President/Website Coordinator

  • Candido Pomar: Membership Committee Chair

  • 1st Nicole schlau, University of Alberta
  • 2nd Tracy Greer, University of saskatchewan/Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Lethbridge
  • 3rd Mychal-Ann Hayhoe, University of Guelph

I thank the outgoing Executive members: Karen Schwartzkopf-Genswein, Marie-France Palin, Paul Groenewegen, Kendall Swanson and Alan Iwaasa. Their great work and dedication ensured the society business carried on. Congratulations to our award winners and all the best in your future endeavours.

Mark your agenda for the next CSAS meeting; joint with the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) and American Dairy Science Association - JAM 2012 will be held in Phoenix AZ, July 15-19.

Respectfully submitted,
Julie Small
