Inquiries/Information

Greetings from Lethbridge,

I hope by now you've had a chance to renew your membership in the Canadian Society of Animal Science. This year, members have the option of using their credit cards to pay their dues. We hope that this option will facilitate the process for you, although it does add another expenditure to the Society's budget. We will let you know how this all shakes out after all the renewals are received.

The big news is our new website (www.csas.net) which is now up and running, thanks to Tim McAllister. Please take time to check it out. The site is still under development, so if you have suggestions/comments please contact Tim directly through the site (info@aic.ca). In the future, information and updates to CSAS members will be posted regularly on the web site.

This is the last print version of the newsletter routinely sent out to members. Members without access to the Internet who wish to receive a quarterly print version of the Newsletter at a cost of $15/year should contact the AIC office (if you didn't already indicate this on your renewal form).

The website has a number of really nice features. It gives an overview of the Society including the objectives, a brief history and contact information. We are hoping that all information related to our annual meeting will be accessible through the site. The site also has a lot of really interesting links to other agricultural sites, including links to universities, provincial and federal agriculture organizations, and producer organizations. For individuals seeking careers in agriculture, there are links to employment sites. The site also provides free advertising for CSAS members seeking employment in agriculture related positions and for employers wanting to advertise vacancies. We hope this feature will help attract new student members. The site also provides the Society with a method of archiving information. Many pdf files can be downloaded directly from the site using Acrobat Adobe Reader. If you don't already have the Adobe software, it can be downloaded at no cost from our site.

If you have any technical trouble with the site, please contact the Webmaster through the site (webmaster@csas.net).

Our next annual meeting will be held with AIC in Guelph from July 8-11 (for more info check out www.AIC2001.com and www.csas.net). The meeting will have a number of special symposia, including Environmental Aspects of Animal Production (held jointly with the Canadian Society of Agricultural Engineers), Current Topics In Animal Welfare, Advances in Agricultural Biotechnology and Genomics, and Applications of Mathematical Modelling in Animal Production. Page x of this newsletter has more information about the meeting. Updates on the meeting will be posted on the Websites as information becomes available.

Hope to see you in Guelph …
Until next time,

Karen Beauchemin
CSAS President
