Inquiries/Information | Greetings! In my inaugural message, I would like to express what an honour it is for me to serve the Canadian Society of Animal Science as president of the society. I am privileged to work with a great team on the executive. I would to thank those members of the executive whose terms finished at the annual meeting in Quebec City, especially Past President Tim McAllister for his leadership last year and for the initiatives that he undertook on behalf of the society. I also want say a big 'merci' to Hélène Petit, our secretary-treasurer, who had a big job keeping the society's accounts and minutes in order. Mike Dugan, retiring Western Director, did a great job as Awards Chair, and Janice Bailey, retiring Eastern Director, did a wonderful job initiating the position as journal liaison with the Canadian Journal of Animal Science. On behalf of the society, I would like to thank all these members for their dedication and enthusiasm and for their contributions to the advancement of the CSAS. I would like to welcome the new members to the executive: Christiane Girard, Secretary-Treasurer, Karen Schwartzkopf-Genswein, Western Director, Robert Berthiaume, Eastern Director, and Doug Yungblut, Director-at-Large. I would also like to recognise those who are continuing on the executive: Erasmus Okine,President Elect and Webmaster, Duane McCartney, Vice-President, Julie Small, Western Director and Membership Chair, Leslie McLaren, Eastern Director and Awards Chair, and Alan Iwaasa, Director-at-Large. I am looking forward to meeting with the executive at our mid-year meeting in February, 2003. I would like to say a special word of thanks to the local CSAS organising committee for the first joint CSAS/ASAS/ADSA meeting, which was held in Quebec City in July, 2002. This committee did an excellent job of putting together a superb programme of symposia to kick off the joint meeting. They also planned the annual business meeting luncheon. The committee outdid itself, though, with the elegant awards banquet for CSAS members, followed by a dance where everyone could kick up their heels. Photos of the banquet can be found under the Awards 2002 link. Thank-you to the organising committee for hosting such a wonderful annual meeting! Speaking of annual meetings, Phil Thacker and John McKinnon are co-chairing the organising committee that is putting together a great programme for the CSAS 2003 annual meeting in Saskatoon. The preliminary programme for the meeting, which will be held from June 10-13, 2003, is available now on the website. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend to take advantage of the excellent slate of speakers the organising committee has lined up. Planning an annual meeting is a challenging undertaking, so two new positions were created on the CSAS executive in order to help the organising committee. These new Directors-at-Large will be responsible assist in organizing the society's annual meeting and to put together a turnkey set of instructions outlining the steps necessary to organize an annual meeting. I would love to hear feedback from the membership on issues that you
feel the CSAS should address, and any suggestions you have for our mid-year
executive meeting will be welcome. Please don't hesitate to contact me
at sscott@agr.gc.ca. Sincerely, |
