Greetings!

As the new President, it is an honour for me to serve the Canadian Society of Animal Science. There is a great team of executive members who will ensure the smooth running of the affairs of the society.

I would to thank those members of the executive whose term/s finished at the annual meeting in Saskatoon, especially Past President Shannon Scott for her able leadership last year and for the smooth way she ran the affairs of the society. A “big thank you" to Julie Small, our Membership Director for initiating a ‘new membership drive’, Leslie MacLaren, Eastern Director, who did a great job as Awards Chair and for being a wonderful hostess at the banquet, and Doug Yungblut, Director-at-Large. I would like to thank all these members for their dedicated swervice and enthusiasm and for their contributions to the advancement of the CSAS.

I would like to welcome the new members to the executive: Paul McCaughey (Vice President), Kees Plazier, (Western Director and Membership Assistant), Johanne Chiquette (Eastern Director and Awards Assistant) and John Basarab, (Director-at-Large). I would also like to recognize those who are continuing on the executive: Duane McCartney (President Elect and Webmaster), Karen Schwartzkopf-Genswein, (Western Director and Awards Chair), Robert Berthiaume, (Eastern Director and Membership Chair), and Alan Iwaasa, Director-at-Large. I am looking forward to meeting with the executive at our mid-year meeting in February 2004.

I would like to say a special “thank you” to the local CSAS organizing committee (John McKinnon, Phil Thacker, Alan Iwaasa and all the others) in Saskatoon. This committee did an excellent and a superb job of putting together a superb programme of symposia, which, ensured that all in Saskatoon enjoyed a wonderful time. The committee blazed the trail, creating the environment for all to have a great time in Saskatoon, with the elegant awards banquet, the Swing Band, the Pub Crawl and BBQ. Thank-you to the organizing committee for hosting such a wonderful annual meeting! The organizing committee in Edmonton has its work cut out to ensure a similar wonderful time for members of the CSAS in 2004.

I would enjoy hearing and reading your suggestions and concerns relating to issues that you feel the CSAS should address. Please do not hesitate to contact me at 780-492-7666 and erasmus.okine@ualberta.ca

Sincerely, Erasmus
